Dog Bites Man

The spirit of Walter Duranty lives on at the New York Times!

Pretty shocking: NYT runs an op-ed by Obama, but rejects one by McCain. Why not just change the name of the paper, for the duration of the campaign, to The Obama Herald? Perhaps the editors were afraid that a McCain op ed would hurt Obama's off-off Broadway foreign policy box office. In any event, this is pretty lame, even for the Times; they're just phoning in their hypocrisy these days.

No to defend them, but my guess is that most of the people who would read a NYT op-ed will hear about this because they also read blogs.

What is more worrisome is how many people still get most of their news from the big three and don't read blogs. They're the ones getting an awfully slanted take on current politics.

On the other hand, now everyone is going to hear about this and it's going to be yet another nail in the coffin of the myth of journalistic objectivity (not that the lid will ever be completely nailed down - it's huge coffin).

Further, McCain's op-ed is likely to get more coverage now, as a result of having been shunned by the NYT. Well, coverage, that is, from whomever the big three networks left to sit in for their anchors on the Obama Fellatio Tour.

So possibly this could be a net win for McCain.

Anyway, let me just say this: screw the NYT. and the horse they rode in on.
