More Media Fairness

The moderator of the Palin/Biden debate is a shill for Obama.

We watch PBS newshour here in aust you know. Our govt broadcaster SBS buys it. Gwen Ifyll comes across as a relaxed intelligent well-spoken yet unpretentious anchor, really one of the best I've seen, much more at ease than Couric say.

No doubt she supports Obama, but then most blacks do. Doesn't mean she likes Biden.

I agree its an odd choice in theory, but she may actually be an asset for Palin, with a down-home feminine feel she puts people at ease. Biden may look the worse against the 2 ladies.

This is one piece of news I'm not worried over. Fingers crossed.

But then I see she's born near the same day as me, so no wonder I like her - we're astro-twins.

Hope you're right, Bruce. I'm thinking that she'd have to be on her guard, anyway; an openly biased series of questions could well backfire.

I think (or hope, atleast) we're anticipating bias because we've gotten so used to it. My impression of Ifyll is that she can remain professional and remember this isn't about her.

It isn't so much a problem of knowing which candidate a reporter, or moderator, supports but whether said reporter can set that aside and do a fair job. I think Ifyll can do this. She'd do herself a big favor if so, her performance will evaluated almost as much Biden's and Palin's.

I'm really going to miss Brit Hume come 2009.

Miss him??? Why??? Do you know something I don't know??? Where's he going??? I don't know if I can survive without him!!!

Well, of course I can...but he's my favorite guy on tv, just ahead of Alton Brown on Good Eats.

As for Ifyll & the debate, I won't be home to watch its, so keep me informed about how 'we' do, please? Thanks!

I'm not worried about Ifyll either. If she does her job fairly, then all is well. If she gets all partisan and smug, then she's only boosting Palin.

Besides, I believe Governor Palin can hold her own pretty well.

Sorry, kc, but Brit is cleaning out his desk at the end of the year. He'll be on ocassionally but no longer host of Special Report. I don't know who is taking over.

Alton Brown is one of the few cooking shows I watch.

I hope she's allowed to be herself, rather than have the life tutored out of her. I heard that, in Alaska, she was a great debater.

Now I've done the on-topic bit, time for another .... CANADIAN EEEELLLLECTIOOOON UUUPDAAATE!!!

Well, on the local level, we seem to be a contender in the local riding race. Ottawa-Vanier has been Liberal since the last ice-age. But we've got a great candidate and campaign manager and the office is always buzzing.

This being my 5th election, I sense more buzz this time. The majority of the effort goes into canvassing. The effort this time is the best organized I have seen. And we're getting a lot of young people out, courtesay University out-reach. "Shock your parents and professors: be Conservative".

We also have a great sign effort (polishes nails on chest and grins :-). I've written a pamphlet about sign campaigns for future use by others. As a sign (no pun intended) of a little frustration by the liberals, we had a whole series of arterial signs removed in a planned and systematic manner. I had them up again in no time and took photographic evidence so as to launch a complaint with Elections Canada.

The Liberal incumbent assumes he will win as the Liberals have always won; however, this time, we have the immigrant vote due to the 18 months of work by our Haitian candidate, Patrick Glemaud. Our governor general is Haitian also.

On the national scale, there are two questions everyone has:

1) Will the Conservatives get a majority government. By all natural rights, they should; but the liberal establishment is in a big funk and are threatening the end of the world if there is a Harper majority.

2) The race for second place has become dominant in the media. This is totally humiliating for the Liberals and their leader, Stephane Dion, who cannot explain himself in French, let alone English. And he is running on a platform of enormous greenhouse gas tax increases. Hahaha. The compound noun "Intellectual Idiot" comes to mind.

The Liberal party machine is trying to take over, and have decided to run against Bush, rather than Harper, see http://www.bushharper.com. Harper Derangement Syndrome.

So, that's all folks, from Canada, for now.

PS Ottawa-Vanier is an unusual riding, it has the richest and the poorest areas in the city. The Governor-General lives in the riding, along with many ambassadors and really stinking rich people, in Rockcliff. Overbrook, on the other hand is full of the desperately poor and criminal types (That's the reputation). If you get kicked oyut of your public housing in Overbrook, it's the street for you. It is even poorer than the drug and crime ridden Vanier, which used to be a fine, French Canadian, working class area.

PPS Tonight is the French leaders' debate. I have it running on CPAC.CA. Report tomorrow. Now the debates are here, after the debates is the home stretch.

Y'know, it's been one of those days...when I'm completely ahead of myself. Debate isn't today...sheesh...I gotta start getting more sleep.

Will still miss the great majority of it tomorrow, as I have something to attend that lasts even longer than the meeting I was at tonight.

I was SO hoping to get this over with! And y'all were very kind not to call me the names I'm calling myself.
