I think it's the way the government (state and federal) is going in general, Paco, rather than a Republican/Democrat thing. Power corrupts, and there's too much power at all levels of government these days.
The Democrats better rethink this stupid strategy, because sooner or later Republicans will get the upper hand, and the Dems don't want to be on the receiving end of something like that. We needn't think the Republicans wouldn't use a club like that, either.
Honestly, I despair of our politicians.
Power's like potato chips or salted peanuts - you can't eat just one. Pretty soon, you've consumed the whole bag, and you're poking around in the pantry looking for more.
Meanwhile, remember what R. Emmett Tyrrell, Jr. said back in the early days of the American Spectator; that one of the best weapons in the arsenal of the Right is the horselaugh, and it should be used unsparingly. Here, incidentally, is his latest article, glowing with the cheerful defiance that marks his work.
I, for one, welcome our new, non-monolithic (nor dogmatic) Socialist Feminist Overlords. The Bitch-Goddess Gaia is part of the new Trinity, and Talk-Not-Fight is our new Catechism.
