Scott Johnson at Powerline said pretty much everything I had planned to say about Ted Kennedy’s political legacy. The personal legacy was one that probably would have driven anybody but a dynastic, Democratic politician from office, to live out his days in a much-deserved obscurity.
I believe it was Dean Acheson who, upon being informed of the death of his old nemesis, Joe McCarthy, responded, “De mortuis nil nisi bonum” – and then pointedly proceeded to say nothing. So, today, anyway, I have nothing more to add.

With notable exceptions, of course. Like him. Or him.
Jeff: What I wouldn't give to have advance notice of Castro's demise! I'd hop a plane to Miami for the biggest street party in history.

Not too long before Fidel handed over power to his brother, Val over at Babalu put up a post that there was a strong rumor Fidel had died. He (Val) said many Cuban-Americans kept a bottle of champagne against the happy day and maybe it was time to make sure you could find the corkscrew. Anyway, if you can't get to Miami for the party, atleast get a bottle of bubbly and join Val in a virtual party. I plan to.

I thought it was "De mortuis nihil nisi bonum." And I forgot to check if James Taranto had the obvious snark about how Mary Jo Kopechne was unavailable for comment.

Isophorone: No, I think it's "nil." But since my last exposure to Latin was in the 9th grade, I'm certainly not betting on it (anyhow, the phrase as I have it is the shortened version, per Wikipedia).
