Rachel Maddow Rages against the Dying of the Light

Donald Douglas brings us the news that Rachel Maddow called Stacy McCain a "white supremacist" on Meet the Press. Stacy responds with what, boiled down to its essentials, is a post in which he invites Maddow to kiss his ass - precisely what the situation calls for.

For too long, leftists have succeeded in controlling the framework and context of public argument by constantly putting conservatives on the defensive. This has worked because conservatives have let leftists get away with the strategy. McCain says "not this time, sweetheart", while he grins and lights up an unfiltered Camel (not a Parliament Light, as some wag, I am convinced, typed under McCain's name at his blog yesterday).

The leftists fail to see that they have succeeded in making their cries of racism a corollary of Godwin's Law. Perhaps this sounds counter-intuitive, but I can't help but think that this is a good thing. The reckless attribution of white supremacism represents the last baffled and enraged howl of the old-media dinosaurs as the new-media meteor goes roaring through the cybersphere (a metaphor that has reached the zenith of hilarity in a series of posts at Small Dead Animals).

I always enjoy listening to Mark Levin describe her as "Rachel Madcow".

The shrill cries of racism by unimaginative lefties has reduced that charge down to the level of jay walking. Which is unfortunate, given how they support and practice racism on a daily basis.

Did anybody else watching that video get the sense of an insular, out-of-touch elite trying to mollify the hoi-polloi while still justifying their sneering views of same?
