Beer: The Staff Of Life

Did early man cultivate grain in order to make bread, or, as archaeologist Patrick McGovern suggests, to brew beer?

Paco, you're a bit of a history buff, right? Now wasn't there something about how the Pilgrims changed course and landed early because they ran out of beer?

Breitbart TV/BBC Video...Buried Haiti Man Lived on Beer, Cookies & Coke for 11 Days

The BBC video rolls continuously, from video to video. However the first video is of this blessed young man and amen for that.

"Daily Mail: For 11 days, 24-year-old Wismond Exantus existed in a nightmare. Buried alive, he survived on beer, biscuits and Coke, and banged desperately on the broken walls that weighed down on him to get someone's attention.

He did not know if anyone would ever hear. He prayed, recited psalms, and slept.

On Sunday - hours after authorities called off the search for survivors in Haiti - a journalist heard Wismond's pleas for help."

Paco, the title of your post..."Beer: The Staff Of Life", nails it big time.

Perhaps the US is getting back to its roots...

It's funny. They're trying socialism left, right and centre these days... there, here, everywhere.

No sale.

But I digress. Another wonderful product made from wheat... essentially.

Any better? WTF is with the layout of your blog, JP?

Anyways, I'll do a Stacy Full Metal jacket reacharound...

PACO, have you emailed him yet to tell him I'm not a complete freak?

'Tis one of the WordPress themes I picked. Then stupidly upgraded so I could have "my own domain" and some other crap.

It is due for renewal come Feb.3, which ain't gonna' happen.

I'm not spending money, even though minimal, for half assed components, namely the WP button for video's, that seem to work when THEY feel like it, versus, when I feel like it.

The "any better" was sarcastically typed (who me?..lol) as I have a new physician (the other passed away) who has changed my medications that cure everything from athletes foot to hair loss and even purportedly improves my golf swing.

You killed your physician? Jeez, man. That's a bit rough.

Growing grain as a source for making beer isn't a new theory. I heard it the first time some 20 years ago. So it's definitely much older than that.

W:uldubeca: Could be a nice name for a Saxon beer-brand.(Been reading Bernard Cornwell lately! Great writer.)

Yes, bingbing, I wrote to Stacy and informed him that you were not a complete freak (I also included a link to your blog).

I think the trouble with the theory that grain began to be cultivated to brew beer, attractive as it is, lies in the fact that to brew beer you need something to brew it in. Grain growing antedates the invention of pottery (let alone metal use) by millenia.
