Completely Objective Film-Maker to put Stalin, Hitler "In Context"

Oh, goody! Looks like another fair and even-handed historical documentary from Oliver Stone (H/T: Right Bias).

"Stalin, Hitler, Mao, McCarthy -- these people have been vilified pretty thoroughly by history." They sure have, Ollie! McCarthy didn't even kill anybody, and yet, apparently, he's worthy of inclusion in that sentence alongside of three of the greatest mass-murderers of all time.

"Stone said that conservative pundits will dislike the show."

Can't imagine why.

All the great leaders were blood-thirsty megalomaniacs.

If only Obama could just nuke Bambi.

PS Silliness aside, maybe this time I get what you're saying.

And yes, I'm link-whoring. New blog and all that jazz...

I always thought that Oliver Stone jumped the shark with "JFK", but clearly I was wrong about that.

"We can't judge people as only 'bad' or 'good.'"

Yes, we can......when they butchered millions of people.

"I've been able to walk in Stalin's shoes and Hitler's shoes to understand their point of view."

So Oliver Stone admits to mass murder?

And so on.

I just can't decide if the man is a lunatic, or just took too many drugs over the years.

TRJ: I wouldn't consider those two mutually exclusive. Afterall, we've heard a great deal lately about "pre-existing conditions".

We can't judge people as only good or bad. Well, maybe or maybe not. What we can do is judge their actions, and evil intent leads to evil actions. Maybe conservatives just favor an "outcomes" based reality.

That pretty much nails it for me.

So I can say, with confidence, that Stone is an idiot.

i have never seen a film oliver stone directed. and do not intend to start. let him remake history in his own mind; i don't need to contribute to his counting house. he did write the screenplay for 3 films i enjoyed - midnight express, scarface, and conan the barbarian.

Given Ollie Stoner's rep, I figure conservative pundits (and others) will simply skip going to see it.

Miss Red: I think it's safe to forgo his cinematic output; unless you like the feeling of steam coming out of your ears (I don't much care for the feeling, myself, although it always seems to help my sinuses). Rebecca's right; most conservatives will give it a miss, except for those brave souls who will watch it so that we don't have to.

This is nothing original with Stone. Even George Bernard Shaw was in love with monsters, from Napoleon straight through to Stalin and Hitler.

Stone is just in line with most of the intellectual left, hence my conviction that the modern humanities have become a suicide cult...

One of the commenters from that link posted this. I think it's interesting. Too late, but interesting. :)

"Of all those who supported and voted for the B-Ho, very few still support him. Only the dregs of Hollyweird, and the knuckledragging fascistic left do. I say this as a former, lifelong lib dem, who foolishly voted for that corrupt piece of sh*t. I'm now an independent, and i'm for the first time in my life, contributing to and planning on voting republican if there isn't a good independent candidate.

I've donated the limit to Scott Brown in MA, and planning on voting for him. I've also cancelled my subscription to Showtime, and written to the cable network, informing them as to why. I'm also encouraging others to do the same."
