Alexander Anderson, Jr. - RIP

The creator of Rocky and Bullwinkle has died at age 90.

Where did he get his inspiration?
Anderson's wife of 36 years, Patricia, told the Herald her husband created Bullwinkle after a dream about a moose sitting in on his poker games with friends.

Moose and squirrel are my favorite cartoon characters of all time. Thanks for the laughs, Mr. Anderson, and enjoy your heavenly poker games with Bullwinkle.

"Boris! Moose and squirrel are coming! Get Ready!"

"Watch me pull a rabbit out of my hat!"

Best. Cartoon. EVAH.

RIP, Mr. Anderson.

Well, just the same, I'm just glad other people dreamt of one-toothed dragons and a sea serpent that was always...seasick and a rabbit who thought he was a member of the Knights of the Roundtable.

Mr. Anderson had a great history to build on.

Yes Yojimbo, as I recall that rabbit had a very un-PC name too. Good stuff.

Oh yes I loved Rocky Bullwinkle, Dudley Doright, Mr Peabody and the Wayback Machine, Boris and Natasha, the lot.

Very un-PC, Bruce, very un-PC. Holy Cross University still uses that as its nickname. I continue to be amazed they have not been placed on permanent lockdown.

The Sony Walkman and Paul the octopus have died, too.

"Guess I gotta get a bigger hat"

"There's always room for one more"

"My horse will save you Nell"

He also created Dudley Do-Right.

I still love these cartoons as they have some of the worst puns ever put to air.

Paco, without your blog Alexander Anderson Jr's passing would have gone unreported down under.

Thanks.

Irobot: I didn't know Bullwinkle and crew were so well-known in other parts of the world.

You're right about the puns, and the characters themselves were simply hilarious in their own right. Also, I always got a kick out of the fine narration of William Conrad, an actor who usually played either gangsters or cops in movies back in the '40s and '50s (he was also the voice of Matt Dillon on the radio version of Gunsmoke, and starred in several TV series).

Paco: Clever humour transcends international boundaries and I agree that the narration added even more made the show and the clever names, witty dialogue and humour of these cartoons never fades.

Given the right circumstances I can still do the voices of Bullwinkle and Dudley Do-Right, not at the same time though.

And I still have a Mr Peabody tie from the days when they were fashionable. So you could say I am a fan.
