Uh oh... I already know how this one ends. My brother portrayed John the Baptist at a school pageant. The line of his that generated the most mirth was, in relating his sojourn in the desert, "I dined on bugs and honey."

Although it was poignant when he related how his head was cut off "at the whim of a dancing girl."

Yeah, locusts and honey - we used to hope that 'locusts' were a fruit, or garbled loquats.

If you're ever wanting to try a modern opera, not too 'way out', Richard Strauss's 'Salome' has it all, is brief enough, and Dance of the 7 veils to boot.

"... bugs and honey."
... candied rabbit, no doubt.

Cheers

Bruce: I saw a performance of Salome when I lived in Miami. Very good, and, as you say, not overly long.
