Off the rails

This week's dollop of sweet irony.

You know, I have nothing against trains. I love the sound of a train whistle late at night (when the wind's just right, we can hear one about once in a blue moon from somewhere, I have no idea where, since all the train tracks around here have been turned into bike trails - maybe it's a ghost train). Also, freight trains are extremely cost-efficient, especially in the stretched-out western states. Passenger trains are also great... for places like Europe and Asia, where the people-to-available ground ratio is thickteen.

However, I never plan to do any of my serious traveling in America by train, and see no reason why my tax dollars should go to subsidize others' travel plans.

"Joseph R. Biden Jr. Wilmington Train Station"

It's disappointing that some people don't have enough shame to wait to let people name things after them once their dead.

In the words of that great sage Homer Simpson, "Doh!"

It makes sense to name this after Joe Biden. There is so much in common. He's rarely on time, and costs more than he's worth.

The weird thing is, in an age where porn rules, they actually covered her legs.

I'm waiting for the story where the apparatchik in charge of GM has to hop a freight because his Volt runs out of juice.

My wife came home on the Amtrak Wolverine 352 today. Chicago to Ann Arbor. 4.5 hour trip. Took just over 5 hours. Her trip to Chicago on Thursday took about 6 hours. bout average for that train. She or I have ridden the Wolverine one way or the other about 50 times in the last 10 years and it has been within 5 minutes of being on time. Once. Worst was the Christmas weekend it left us stranded in Chicago for 3 extra days. Sheesh.
