The blogging classes
Stacy McCain discusses the “two-tiered blogging hierarchy” and the discontents of the lumpenblogatariat. As a member of the blogging “lowarchy”, I’m about as “lumpen” as you can get; however, as someone who admits, freely, to being a mere dilettante, I am perfectly content. I enjoy presiding over my little salon, with its dozen or so regular members. Less influential, but much cozier that way, and far better suited to a lazy fellow like me.

There ought to be a little Sumerian mead, at least. The best salons, that attract the most discerning participants, offer light refreshments. It was one of the things that attracted Ben Franklin to Mme. Helvetius' salon. Of course, the other thing that attracted him there was Mme. Helvetius herself, but I would not expect Paco to enocurage such behavior.
By the way, has the computer security situation become much worse? It appears that you need two words, rather than one as before, to prove a commenter is a real person, and not a nefarious computerized source of spam. I guarantee you that I am a real person. Well, most of the time I am.
I don't recall setting up any kind of special sign-on for comments. Is this just something that Blogger does?

Anyway, I never miss a Paco post, except when I am away. Lowarchy, hah! I see this as a Qualitarchy!
Btw, I also wondered about the two word verification. Not as much fun as the old word for the day. But that's what happens when technocrats fossilize.
Rebecca: I may upgrade soon to a verification system that will require your s/s number, major credit card number, and bank account information. Confidentiality, of course, will be guaranteed.
Oh, there's a few more of us, some even demi-colonials as well.
Captcha is a block inherited from the "comment-block" item in CSS, it's all blogger. Looks like they're "beefing up security" (fist pump)...
