Locahontas

Did Elizabeth Warren use her Native-American heritage (mythical or otherwise) to grease the skids on her career advancement? Stacy McCain introduces some speculation on the matter from a correspondent (btw, love the “Dances with Socialists” line!)

Update: Apparently, Warren is 1/32 Cherokee. So, if I’m doing my math right, Barack Obama is 16 times more Caucasian than Elizabeth Warren is Native-American – yet he’s not considered Caucasian. Ergo, I reason, Warren is not, in any meaningful sense, a Native-American.

One thing’s for sure, though: the marriage of politics and ethnicity results in some very curious progeny.

According to Family Legend, I'm 1/64th Chippewa. Yeah. BFD. Means I get none of the bennies, but also none of the perceived troubles (redhead, green eyes).

Howsomever, there is no way to verify this story. Too many "cooks in the kitchen."

Is there a blood test that can tell what races we're made up of? Mine will look like mud! Long live the Heinz 57! Mongrels RULE!

If you believe Asser, in his Life of Alfred (as I choose to do), King Alfred’s ancestry could be traced back to Thor (son of Odin) and Ilia (daughter of King Priam, who was a descendant of Zeus); accordingly, as a descendant of Alfred the Great (as well as a couple of Scottish saints), I’m part god!

Deadman: I've long suspected it...

Me too, Deadman. My cousin put in years of research and traced our line back to a daughter of Edward II, who is of course descended from Alfred the Great through Norman marriages with the locals.

But they say 1 in 4 British are descended from William the Conqueror anyway.

Wow. Descended from Zeus. Cool!

The One Drop Rule always applies in leftyland.

Well, we're all descended from the original ancestors in Africa, so I propose that we all claim minority status.

Years ago, a government worker asked me to fill out a demographic survey about race. I was happy to do so except that it specified only one, and I am bi-racial. After trying to explain to the the very nice drone, it dawned on me that these were only words to him, not people.

All my relatives, how ever distant, are important, for without them I would not be. You can not put them in measuring spoons or cups. They are not animals with pedigrees. They are my relatives. So, yes, Steve Skubinna, every drop counts. But, no, I'm not a lefty. I just respect all my relatives.

The quantumization of blood of Indians and Blacks was started with the US government. It is one of the most divisive and effective tactics ever, and has been adopted by Indians and Blacks. Very sad.

Nall Indians look alike even without Caucasian influence. There were "blue eyes" and fair skin reported in some tribes like the Mandan. Pennsylvania Governor William Penn said of the Lenape (my Mom's side) that "they are swarthy like Italians." He mentioned that they were "dark by design not by nature". Even Crazy Horse had a red tint to his hair.
